Curried Ground Beef and Shrimp with Broccoli - Blood Type O Recipe

This recipe was inspired by a meal I ordered at a local Latin cantina restaurant. I was out with family and friends, fairly new on the Blood Type O Diet, and definitely new to this restaurant.

I had to quickly scan the menu to see what I could eat that didn't include wheat, corn and sour cream, which are staple ingredients for Latin foods like in burritos, tacos, etc.

But there were plenty of single items that I could eat, like ground beef, shrimp, rice, cilantro, peppers, onions and salsa. And I wanted to see if I could create my own meal with these ingredients.

So, I told the waitress about my food restrictions and asked her if I could build my own meal these ingredients (I teach you how to do this in my Type O Restaurant Food Scripts). We brainstormed together and I got the Type O, gut-friendly burrito bowl I needed.

My first bite was outstanding! And I savored every bite after that. As I sat there enjoying my food, I wondered how I could make this at home, as I do with every meal I eat out.

So I used the Latin meal as a basis for the meal in this recipe. I removed the rice, because Type Os do best on high-protein, low-carb meals, and rice is a food that is high in carbohydrates per serving. I swapped in the curry for the Latin lime flavor, because I love curry and wanted a more spicy and savory flavor, which is also a highly beneficial food for Type Os.

This one-pan meal is so good I cook it once per week. And I think you will enjoy it too, especially if you're striving to eat according to the Blood Type O Diet.

Ingredients

1 pack of beef bacon

1 pack of ground beef

1 bag of frozen shrimp (peeled, deveined, tail off)

1 red onion, coarsely chopped

1 bell pepper, coarsely chopped

1 bag of frozen broccoli

curry powder

salt (if there is none in the curry powder)

crushed red peppers

1 tsp minced garlic

Cookware and Tools

large skillet or pan

  • if you are using an electric skillet, I recommend the heat setting of 325 degrees Fahrenheit

firm spatula (metal or wooden)

cutting board (preferably non-plastic)

cutting knife

Instructions

  1. Slice the beef bacon, bell pepper and onion.

  2. Place these in the pan with the minced garlic and crushed red pepper and saute.

  3. Once the pepper and onion slices are translucent, add the ground beef and begin seasoning it with the curry powder, crushed red pepper and salt (if there is no salt in the curry powder).

  4. The ground beef will begin to solidify as it cooks. Chop up the solid forms into smaller pieces with a firm spatula. Cover and cook for 5-7 minutes, checking once or twice.

  5. Once the beef is mostly brown, add the frozen shrimp and mix it into the ground beef. Cover.

  6. After 5 minutes, when the shrimp is beginning to turn pink, add the frozen broccoli and mix it into the ground beef.

  7. Optional: You may lightly season the mix again with more curry powder.

  8. After 5-7 minutes, stick a fork into a piece of broccoli to check that it is goes through. Another option is to taste it for your desired texture.

  9. Remove from or turn off heat and enjoy!
